Starting now and kicking into high gear in 2021, GA4 (the first major overhaul of Google Analytics since it first released in 2005) — will impact all digital marketers and website owners. In this live Q&A, our audience walked away confident in understanding GA4, its features, and a framework to support their migration plan.
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is an overhaul of Universal Analytics (UA) — unifying App and Web with a machine learning model to allow for a more holistic view of user journeys.
Five Seer Analytics team members: James, Stephen, Emmilly, Winter, and Catherine broke down the key benefits, highlighted what’s changing, and shared a prioritization framework to support planning ahead. Not to mention, they collectively answered over 40+ questions throughout the Live Chat…
Jump into the recap:
- GA4 is being looked at as an entirely new product. How marketers and site owners collect, measure, analyze and use data will evolve thanks to GA4’s new user-centric data model and a deeper focus on machine learning.
- Yes, some features are getting left behind but there’s a lot to be excited about. With GA4’s new data model, you’re able to measure the user journey in a way that wasn’t easily possible before. Plus, there will be widespread access to features previously exclusive to GA360 customers only (e.g. Advanced Analysis, BigQuery Exports, and more).
- It’s not time to switch yet, but creating a test property now will help you prepare later. Depending on your business needs, switching to GA4 during the beta might not make sense. However with all the new changes — there’s going to be a learning curve when it is time to switch. Our team recommends manually setting up a test property with built-in and recommended events to get a better understanding of the interface and its capabilities in the meantime.
