People of Seer: Meet Lisa Devieux

People of Seer

Welcome back to People of Seer: Philly Edition! In this series, you’ll get to meet our team and learn about what makes them the best around (in our humble opinion).

Philly Edition Q&A:

Where did you grow up? If you would like to share, what was your childhood like?

I grew up in a small town called Fallston, MD. It was sort of rural-suburban, although it's much more developed now.

We were an old-school, mostly-unsupervised band of neighborhood kids that left home in the morning and were back for dinner. Your sort of classic creek-playing in the summer and pond-skating in the winter kind of kids. I have two older siblings and we all played multiple sports, did scouts, that kind of thing. My Mom was the president/coach/troop leader of pretty much all of it and I have no idea how she did it.

I adored my childhood and I'm trying to give my kids the same mix of freedom & structure I had.

If I asked for your favorite Seer memories, what are some memories that come to mind?

  1. The times spent volunteering at MANNA with a great crew
  2. Squeezing entire Seer client teams into my husband's old 7 passenger to drive out to client sites
  3. Bringing my babies into the office to meet my coworker
  4. Any and every time I've had a random conversation in the hallway with a new team member I just met all the way up to some of my favorite Seer folks.
  5. Most importantly is every single time I get positive feedback about someone on my team. The closest thing I can compare it to is being a mom, but I get this ridiculous burst of pride watching my team members grow and succeed.

Who are some of the people in your life who inspire you the most and why?

My parents are my heroes for sure.

They dedicated their whole lives to their kids and their community and it makes me so happy to watch them prioritize themselves first finally in retirement.

Other notables are:

  1. My father in law (and before she passed, my husband's grandmother) - they came from Haiti and survived the Duvalier coup, and despite the things they've seen first hand, are just the most upbeat, help-others kind of people.
  2. My great-grandmother who lived to be 102 and, despite her generation, was as no-nonsense and in charge as you could get. She inspired so many of my (and my Mom's before me) mannerisms and attitudes.

How would you explain what working at Seer is like to ... an alien?

Wow I can't imagine explaining working to an alien let alone at Seer :) When I explain it to people outside the digital marketing sphere I usually sum it up like this: you know how organizations like to talk the talk?

Seer is the first place I've been where what you get once you join actually matches what you thought from the outside.

You are stranded on a desert island - what are the three things you bring?

Do people count? Husband, son, daughter :)

Otherwise I'd have to bring my beloved nespresso machine, my phone, and my reusable water bottle.

How did you end up working at Seer?

This one is already well documented by Wil --> 5 years ago I got weird response to an offer & learned a sad truth about interviewing while pregnant.
