    Annie,
It was nice meeting you at Search Love today. Your presentation was the most helpful one that I personally saw today, i’ll be using this for ALL of my audits, and i’m excited to see new tools as well.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

    My pleasure. :)

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Wonderful, Zach! I hope it helps. :)

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

    lolz :)

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Hey, Kate! The weird thing about Gdocs is, even if you’re logged in when you open someone else’s gdoc, you won’t be logged in to your account for that doc. You can tell b/c there’s a login link in the top-right corner (http://www.screencast.com/t/BaZpeK7a6B2E). If you click that and log in, you should be able to create a copy. It seems to be a bug and can be quite annoying.

  • http://jacksonlo.com Jackson Lo

Annie – I must say, this is amazing stuff! I especially like your analysis and breakdown of indexed pages to those that drove traffic and revenue (great way to show opportunities for improvement on the site).

    Annie,
Link on the “Google Doc looks like” image is broken.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Yeah, I’ll have to break the link to the image. Thanks for the head’s up.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Thanks, Jackson! I hope you find lots of good uses from it.

  • David McCormick

Great stuff here Annie. The only thing I’d elaborate on is to recommend using graphs and such whenever possible in addition to screenshots. Graphs do wonders for conveying information easily and quickly, especially when comparing two or more things.

  • Joel Solomon

Agreed, when presenting to clients, anything that helps convey how all of this impacts the bottom line is a huge benefit. Graphs are perfect for that.

    Annie,

On your SEO Analysis Tab, Lines 13-14 say Screaming Frog, but link to gsitecrawler.com dont know which cell is incorrect.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

It was all for your birthday! <3

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Oh yeah, I updated the tool to SF but forgot to change the URL. Thank you.

    no action steps

  • http://twitter.com/seoeditors David Sewell

Estimation of effort can be handy

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

What do you mean? There are action steps all throughout the audit.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Good point. The challenge is the effort will vary wildly from site to site and the skill level of the person doing the audit.

  • http://SEO-Website-Designer.com/ Tiggerito

I use Basecamp and find it a great way to identify work actions from an audit, track them and collaborate on them with the client and the developers.

It still has that daunting effect as I post a mass of work for people to do. I like to prioritise tasks and progressively assign new tasks as the team progress.

In my audit and tasks I like to explain what the problem is, why it is a problem as well as how to solve it. This can help get the client and developers on board. It doesn’t always work but I do have a few developers that are now pro-actively learning about this stuff and avoiding issues before they happen. And that makes everyone happy.

  • http://twitter.com/AnnieCushing Annie Cushing

Oh yeah, we use Basecamp too. I still like using a Google Doc to keep track of the 100-foot-view stuff. It’s easier to monitor progress for the smaller audit points, which can get forgotten about. However, you gave me a good idea: add a column to the Google Doc I give the client with links to BC threads pertinent to that line item.

  • http://SEO-Website-Designer.com/ Tiggerito

One great thing with Google docs and Basecamp is you can include links to each other. I link my reports to the relevant task in BC.

I like your idea of linking to bookmarks within the documents. I just had a play with Google docs and you can add bookmarks which can be linked to from outside the document. That could be handy.

  • anniecushing

Oh wow. I didn’t know that. Thanks, Tigger. Mind if I call you Tigger? :)

  • http://SEO-Website-Designer.com/ Tiggerito

You can call me Tigger :-)

I didn’t either till you gave me the idea. I may consider switching from word to docs so I can make things more interlinked and collaboratable.

    Hi Annie,

Awesome checklist for audits and must-have tools.

FYI, on the must-have tools sheet, Links tab, line 7, the link for Virante’s Link Atrophy tool goes to a 404 page.

Is there another URL for such a tool?

  • http://www.annielytics.com/ Annie Cushing

Hey Robert, I reached out to Virante about it. They fixed the link. :)

  • http://palimadra.tumblr.com/ Pali Madra

Annie you have just gained another fan.

WOW. I win! Thanks, neighbor. :)

Absolutely fantastic stuff Annie! I created my own audit template about 1.5 years ago that contained many of the headings above, however this has definitely given me the impetus to revisit and make my life easier. Love the great suggestions of grouping similar tasks and setting up a Gdoc categorised by priority for the implementation schedule. Excellent stuff, thank you so much!

  • http://www.nedpoulter.co.uk/ Ned Poulter

P.S. The link to enlarge the GoogleDoc screenshot leads to a 404…

  • http://www.annielytics.com/ Annie Cushing

You’re very welcome, Ned! Happy to hear it’s helping in some way. :)

  • http://www.annielytics.com/ Annie Cushing

Yeah, the links to all of the images are broken, for some reason. I uploaded them all again, and they worked for a while but then broke again later.

  • http://twitter.com/kenjansen Ken Jansen

Just got this through DistilledU. Thank you so much.

  • http://www.annielytics.com/ Annie Cushing

Oh hey, Ken! Do you remember which module you saw it? I have a DistilledU membership and am curious now. :)

I’m trying to find duplicate page content on one site. Is there any tool that will do that? I’ve only found two free online duplicate page checkers, and it’s painful going page by page. Is there a tool that can check an entire site for dupe content (I don’t mean Webmaster Tools and meta elements, but entire page content). Thanks in advance!

  • http://www.annielytics.com/ Annie Cushing

    I answered your email.
