SEPTEMBER 22, 2026 — A new article from Entrepreneur.com about brand product visibility in ChatGPT featured original research from Seer Interactive. While discussing how to make sure ChatGPT's bot crawlers see your product listings, the article mentioned Seer's insights into how review profiles can influence brand presence in AI search and citations.
Our research (conducted in partnership with Trustpilot) found that brands can increase their AI citation rate by up to 74 percentage points by having an active review profile. Even brands with a basic profile (Tier 1, or T1) saw a significant jump, and were 53% more likely to be cited by AI platforms.
As Semrush points out, we know AI platforms see earned media and brand mentions on third-party sites as trust signals. That includes everything from community sites like Reddit and Quora to review sites like Trustpilot and G2 (plus news and media and industry publications).
You don't need a massive AI search budget to have an impact on your brand's AI citations - one lever you can use is to build your brand presence on these trusted third-party sites. Pick the review sites most relevant to your industry or market (BBB, G2 Capterra, Trustpilot, Yelp, etc.), and make sure you maintain active profiles on them
Our results also show that AI platforms amplify whatever narratives they find in reviews - if you have just one negative review, AI can latch onto and amplify that sentiment. (Seer actually experienced this firsthand, and even wrote a blog about the steps we took to improve our brand's narrative in AI.)
More from our study: "The data from this study points to one consistent conclusion: in AI search, review presence isn't a nice-to-have, it's part of the foundation AI uses to validate brands at the moment consumers are deciding whether to trust them...The barrier to entry is low, and the gap between having a profile and not having one is significant enough that it's worth treating as a priority."
