June 2019 Core Algorithm Update & Mobile First Indexing Update

The Announcement:

Over the weekend, Google announced they would be releasing a June 2019 Core Algorithm Update today, 6/3/2019:

The Changes:

We have not yet seen any changes take place that have impacted any sites, but will continue to monitor performance this week. You can check back here for updates throughout the week.

Our Recommendation:

We recommend continuing to follow Google’s recommendations after each update:

“Each day, Google usually releases one or more changes designed to improve our results. Some are focused around specific improvements. Some are broad changes. Last week, we released a broad core algorithm update. We do these routinely several times per year.

As with any update, some sites may note drops or gains. There’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded.

There’s no “fix” for pages that may perform less well other than to remain focused on building great content. Over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages.”

Google also announced on May 28th that starting on July 1st mobile-first indexing will be used by default on all new domains (domains that Google Search hasn’t seen before).

The URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console is a great way to see when the last time Google crawled a URL, which Googlebot crawled it and if there are any mobile errors or issues.
